Though not internationally recognized, Somaliland experiences relative stability — a contrast to the conflict that continues to engulf Somalia.
Taking advantage of that stability, the Somaliland government has been able to rebuild much of the region's infrastructure, which was damaged by years of warfare.
Several attempts have been made to end the conflict and reunite Somalia and Somalialand, including the transitional administration that was established in 2004.
