Is a drink too sugary? Does a shampoo contain allergens or endocrine disruptors? Yuka can provide those answers. Scan a product’s barcode and the app will highlight any nutritional red flags, irritants, carcinogens, and more.
What we love: With a database of 5 million food items and beauty products from around the world, Yuka is incredibly comprehensive. And to keep its analysis and recommendations objective, the app does not accept advertising; it’s supported primarily by user subscriptions.

Quick tip: An annual subscription (pay what you like on a sliding scale) unlocks offline access, the ability to search for products by name rather than scanning, and the option to set food preferences like lactose- or gluten-free.
Meet the creator: Yuka is the brainchild of Julie Chapon and brothers François and Benoît Martin. “We had planned to reach 10,000 users in the first year; instead, we reached 1 million,” Chapon says. Today the app serves over 65 million people worldwide.
